Education

Three simple things…
  1. A place to study
  2. The time to study
  3. Books and basic supplies
The 10,000 Girls program helps girls stay in school, get the most out of their education, and acquire the skills needed for life-long learning. How? By providing three simple things:
  1. The time to study
  2. A place to study
  3. Books and basic supplies

Simple does not mean easy. Only essential. For Kaolack in general, only 18% of the girls enrolled will pass to next grade each year. 82% fail. 53% drop out of school.

But for participants in the 10,000 Girls program, 68% pass to the next grade. Over three times greater than the regional average.

And of those girls who don't pass? In contrast to the 53% dropout rate for Kaolack in general, the 10,000 Girls program has consistently maintained a dropout rate of 2% or less. Our girls do not quit. (For more information, please see Facts & Numbers).

Likewise, parents have to be persuaded that education has value for their girls. Those parents are now forming family support networks. (Please see Challenges).

The After School and In School support programs, largely funded by the 10,000 Girls Entrepreneurship program, now have 1442 participants.

Girls determined to improve themselves, their families and their communities. (Please see Building for the future). Aided in their efforts by three simple things--the time, a place, and the needed books. Next, Activities; or, what we do and how we evaluate the outcomes.
